How do I temporarily fix a leaking pipe?

Turn off the water, then use a clamp, tape or epoxy putty as a temporary repair.
The first step is always to turn off the water supply and drain the pipe. A temporary patch can stop damage until a plumber can fix it properly.
Know where your main water shut-off valve is before an emergency happens.
Temporary fixes
Dry the pipe, then apply self-fusing silicone tape, epoxy putty or a pipe repair clamp over the leak and tightly around the pipe.
Small leaks at joints
Try tightening the fitting a little. Do not over-tighten.
Follow up
These fixes are temporary. Replace the damaged section or have it repaired by a plumber. If a pipe has burst or the leak is near electrics, turn off the power too and call for help.
