How do I fix a broken zipper?

Most stuck or separating zippers can be fixed with a lubricant or by reseating the slider.
A zipper that sticks or comes apart is often fixable at home. The problem is usually a clogged track, a bent slider or teeth that have separated.
Work gently so you do not damage the fabric.
Stuck zipper
Rub a graphite pencil, candle wax or a little soap along the teeth, and carefully free any trapped fabric.
Zipper that separates
Squeeze the slider gently with pliers to tighten it, then test. This often brings the teeth back together.
Slider off the track
Remove the stop at the bottom, guide the teeth back into the slider and add a new stop with a small stitch or a metal zip stop. If teeth are missing, replace the zip.
