How do I hang a heavy mirror or shelf on the wall?

Use the right fixing for your wall type and screw into studs or proper anchors.
Heavy items need fixings that match both the weight and the wall type. The wrong plug can cause the item to fall and damage the wall or injure someone.
Check the weight limit on the packaging of any fixing you use.
Find out what is behind the wall
Use a stud finder or a cable and pipe detector so you avoid hidden wires and pipes.
Choose the right fixing
Use wall plugs for brick or concrete, and heavy-duty cavity anchors or screws into studs for drywall or plasterboard.
Mark and level
Use a spirit level and mark through the item's fixing holes. For very heavy mirrors, use two or more fixings and ask someone to help hold it.
