How do I remove a stripped screw?

A rubber band, wider bit or screw extractor can grip a damaged screw head.
When a screw head is damaged, the driver slips and cannot turn it. There are several simple tricks to get a grip again.
Use firm, steady pressure and a slow speed.
Easy options
Place a wide rubber band between the screwdriver and the screw head, or try a slightly larger driver bit.
Other options
Cut a new slot with a rotary tool, grip the head with pliers or locking pliers if it protrudes, or use a screw extractor kit.
Prevention
Choose the correct bit size, push firmly while turning and avoid over-tightening. Pre-drill holes in hard materials.
