How do I fix a wobbly chair?
Tighten loose screws or reglue joints, then clamp until dry.
A wobbly chair usually has loose screws or glue joints that have dried out. Make sure the floor is level before assuming the chair is at fault.
Turn the chair upside down and check each joint.
Screws and bolts
Tighten them. If the thread is stripped, add glue and a wooden dowel or toothpicks to the hole and re-drive the screw.
Loose joints
Pull the joint apart, clean off old glue, apply wood glue and clamp it for the time the glue label states.
Uneven legs
If one leg is slightly shorter, add a felt pad or carefully sand the other legs. Test before cutting anything.
