How do I fix a leaking tap?
Most dripping taps are caused by a worn washer or cartridge that costs very little to replace.
Most dripping taps are caused by a worn rubber washer, a damaged O-ring or a tired cartridge. Replacing the part usually takes under an hour and needs only basic tools.
Always turn off the water supply to the tap before you start.
What you need
An adjustable spanner, a screwdriver, replacement washers or a cartridge that matches your tap, and a cloth to protect the finish.
Basic steps
Close the isolation valve under the sink (or the main supply), open the tap to drain it, remove the handle and cover, unscrew the tap body, swap the washer or cartridge, then reassemble and test.
If it still drips
The seat inside the tap may be worn, or the tap may simply need replacing. A plumber is the next step if you cannot find the cause.
