How do I fix a flickering light?
Check the bulb and fitting first; wiring faults need a qualified electrician.
Flickering lights are most often caused by a loose or incompatible bulb. Wiring problems are less common but more serious.
Switch the light off and let the bulb cool before touching it.
Bulb checks
Tighten the bulb, try a new one and make sure LED bulbs are compatible with your dimmer switch.
Fitting and switch
A worn switch or loose fitting can also cause flicker. Switch off at the breaker before inspecting anything.
When to get help
If several lights flicker, you hear buzzing or crackling, or you notice burning smells or warm switches, stop and call a qualified electrician.
