How do I make a cake moist?

Measure accurately, do not overmix and do not overbake.
Dry cakes are usually caused by too much flour, overmixing or overbaking. Small adjustments make a big difference.
Weigh ingredients with scales for best results.
Ingredients
Use oil or extra fat for moisture, and dairy such as buttermilk or sour cream to tenderise the crumb. Bring eggs and butter to room temperature.
Method
Mix until just combined. Overmixing develops gluten and makes cakes tough.
Baking
Check your oven temperature with an oven thermometer. Test with a skewer a few minutes before the time is up; it should come out with a few moist crumbs. Cool in the tin for 10 minutes.
