How do I speed up a slow computer?
Restart, close heavy programs, free disk space and check startup items and updates.
A slow computer is usually caused by too many programs running, low storage or out-of-date software. Several free fixes often help.

Quick fixes
Close programs and browser tabs you do not need. Open Task Manager (Windows) or Activity Monitor (Mac) to see what is using the most memory or processing power.
Clean up
Uninstall unused apps, empty the recycle bin and make sure you have plenty of free disk space. Reduce startup programs.
Update and scan
Install system updates and run a malware scan. If an older machine is still slow, adding more memory or switching to a solid-state drive can make a big difference.
