How do I grow strawberries?

Plant in sunny, well-drained soil, water regularly and mulch to keep fruit clean.
Strawberries grow well in beds, pots and hanging baskets. They like full sun and well-drained, fertile soil.
Buy healthy young plants from a reputable supplier.
Planting
Plant with the crown level with the soil surface, not buried. Space plants about 30 cm apart.
Care
Water regularly, especially when fruiting, and mulch with straw to keep fruit clean and soil moist. Feed with a potassium-rich fertiliser.
Harvest
Pick when berries are fully red. Remove runners if you want bigger fruit, or pot them up to make new plants.
