How do I build a raised garden bed?

Build a simple frame, line the base, and fill with good soil and compost.
A raised bed gives you better drainage, easier access and control over soil quality. It is a simple project with basic tools.
Choose a sunny, level spot and keep the bed narrow enough to reach the middle (about 1.2 metres wide).
Build the frame
Use untreated or rot-resistant timber, or other safe materials, screwed together at the corners. A height of 20 to 30 cm works for most crops.
Prepare the base
Lay cardboard or landscape fabric on the ground to suppress weeds.
Fill it
Fill with a mix of topsoil and compost. Water well, let it settle and top up before planting.
