How do I cook rice perfectly?

Rinse the rice, use the right water ratio, simmer covered and let it rest.
Perfect rice comes down to three things: the right amount of water, a gentle simmer with the lid on, and a short rest at the end. Different types of rice need different ratios, so check the packet first.
Rinsing the rice removes surface starch and helps the grains stay separate.
Basic method for long-grain white rice
Rinse until the water runs mostly clear. Use about 1 part rice to 1.5 to 2 parts water, bring to a boil, then cover and simmer on low for about 12 to 15 minutes.
Rest and fluff
Turn off the heat and leave the lid on for 10 minutes. Fluff with a fork.
Avoid common mistakes
Do not lift the lid while it cooks, and do not stir, which makes it sticky. Brown rice needs more water and a longer cooking time.
