How do I back up my phone and computer?
Keep at least one extra copy of important files in a different place, ideally automatic.
A backup protects you if your device is lost, stolen, damaged or hit by malware. A simple rule is to keep three copies of important files, on two types of storage, with one stored off-site.
Automatic backups are the easiest to keep up.
Phone
Turn on your phone's built-in cloud backup and photo sync, and check that it is completing.
Computer
Use an external hard drive with the built-in backup tool, plus a cloud backup service for important files.
Test it
Occasionally check that you can open and restore a file from your backup. A backup you have never tested may not work.
