Lesson 1
Positioning for Maximum Range
Strategic placement to bypass obstacles and walls for a stronger, more consistent signal.
Centrality is Key
Most routers radiate signal in all directions. If your router is in a corner or behind a television, you are wasting 50% of your coverage. Move the device to a central, elevated location—a shelf or table in a hallway or living room is ideal.
Avoiding Obstacles
Radio waves struggle to penetrate thick brick walls, large mirrors, and metal filing cabinets. Keep the router away from appliances that cause interference, such as microwave ovens, cordless phones, and baby monitors. If you have a large home, a central position is still the most vital change you can make. Elevating the router 1 metre off the floor significantly improves the signal throw compared to leaving it on the ground, where the signal is dampened by furniture and carpets.
