How do I write a freelance contract?
Put scope, payment, deadlines, revisions and ownership in writing before you start.
A written contract protects both you and your client by making expectations clear. Sign it before you start any work.
This is general information, not legal advice; consider having a lawyer review your template.
What to include
The parties' details, a clear description of the work and deliverables, timeline, price and payment schedule, number of revisions and how extra work is charged.
Other key terms
Who owns the final work and when, confidentiality, late payment terms, how either side can end the agreement and how disputes are handled.
Tips
Use plain language, ask for a deposit and keep a signed copy. Templates are a good start but should be adapted to your country and situation.
