Lesson 1
The Foundation of Mutual Respect
Learn how to spot authentic respect in communication and decision-making.
The Listen Test
Does your partner listen to understand, or do they listen to respond? A green flag is when someone asks follow-up questions about your day or your feelings. They value your perspective even when it differs from their own.
Decision Making
In a healthy dynamic, decisions are made collaboratively. If you want to change plans or adjust a schedule, a healthy partner negotiates with you rather than demanding you change. They respect your 'no' without needing a detailed justification.
Valuing Your Boundaries
When you express a boundary—such as needing quiet time or wanting to see friends—do they accept it readily? If they respect your needs without making you feel guilty, that is a strong indicator of a secure partner. A person who encourages your autonomy is someone who is truly invested in your well-being.
