Lesson 1

Define Your Financial Targets

Translate vague saving desires into specific amounts with clear completion dates.

Be specific Vague goals fail. Instead of saving for 'the future,' define three buckets: an emergency fund (3 months of expenses), a property deposit, and a yearly travel fund. Write these down with a target date. For instance, 'Save 3,000 pounds for a house deposit by December 2025.' ## Calculate the gap Divide the target amount by the number of months until your deadline. If you need 3,000 pounds in 15 months, you must save 200 pounds monthly. If this exceeds your budget, extend the timeline. Avoid setting impossible goals that lead to frustration. Check your progress against this spreadsheet every month. If you fall behind, adjust your spending rather than your goal. Use this clarity to stay motivated during months where saving feels difficult.
