Lesson 1
Conducting a Privacy Audit
Identify and limit excessive data permissions across all your active social and professional accounts.
Scan for exposure
You likely have dozens of accounts with legacy permissions. Start by checking the 'Apps and Websites' section in your primary accounts like Google, Facebook, or LinkedIn. You will be shocked by how many services have access to your contacts, location, or calendar. Revoke everything you no longer use.
The checklist
- Audit social media privacy: Set all profiles to 'private' and check who can see past posts.
- Purge app permissions: Go into your phone settings and limit location access to 'while using' only.
- Check public visibility: Search for your own name in a private browser window. If you find old resumes or public profiles, delete them. The biggest mistake is keeping 'convenience' features active. If you don't use it, remove the app entirely. This reduces your attack surface and keeps your personal data contained to trusted platforms only.
