Lesson 1
The Reality Check Exercise
Separate your feelings of love from the factual reality of why the relationship ended.
The Truth List
When you still love someone, your brain tends to 'edit' the past, highlighting the good moments while minimising the reasons it ended. Take a blank sheet of paper and write down the concrete reasons the relationship was not working. Be specific: 'We had different life goals', 'We struggled to communicate', or 'The trust was broken'. Keep this list in your phone. When you feel a wave of nostalgia or a desire to reach out, read this list immediately.
Validate, Then Release
It is entirely possible to love someone and know that you cannot be together. Do not fight your feelings; acknowledge them. Say to yourself: 'I still love this person, but I also value my long-term peace'. This phrasing validates your emotions without giving them the power to dictate your actions. Acceptance is not about forgetting; it is about choosing your future over your past.
