Lesson 1
Mapping Your Success Metrics
Learn to define success for your current role and the next one you desire.
Audit Your Current Impact
Success is not just doing your job; it is providing value that moves the needle for your team. Start by listing your top five responsibilities. Beside each, write down the result. Did your work save money? Did it save time? Did it improve client satisfaction scores? If you cannot find a number, look for qualitative improvements you have made.
Define the Next Level
Obtain the job description for the role above you. Compare your current output against these requirements. Identify the specific skills or results you are missing. Ask your manager, 'What specifically would I need to demonstrate over the next six months to be ready for a promotion?' This simple question forces them to define the criteria. Keep their answers written down as your official development roadmap to ensure you are measured by objective standards.
