Lesson 1

Inspecting Seals and Airflow

Ensure your fridge is airtight to maintain consistent temperatures.

The Paper Test

To test your door gaskets, place a piece of paper halfway into the door and close it. If you can pull the paper out with no resistance, the seal is worn and needs replacing. A loose seal allows cold air to escape and warm air to enter, causing the motor to work overtime.

Optimising Air Circulation

Do not pack your fridge wall-to-wall. Cold air must circulate around items to maintain an even temperature. Leave at least two inches of space between your food and the back wall. If the back panel is blocked, the thermostat will read incorrectly, potentially freezing food near the vent while leaving the rest of the fridge warm. Organise your shelves to avoid obstructing the cold air vents located at the rear of the unit.
