Lesson 1
Fixing Stuck Zippers
Use basic household items to resolve friction in jammed zipper tracks.
Understanding the friction
A stuck zipper is rarely a broken zipper. It is usually caused by grit or fabric catching in the slider housing. First, inspect the track for stray threads. Gently pull any fabric away using tweezers.
Applying lubricants
If there is no physical blockage, the teeth need lubrication. Do not use oil, as it stains fabric. Instead, use a graphite pencil; rub the lead along both sides of the zipper teeth. Graphite is a dry lubricant that won't attract dust. Alternatively, use a beeswax candle or a piece of dry soap. Rub the lubricant onto the teeth, then move the slider up and down slowly. Repeat this process until the slider moves smoothly across the entire length of the track. If the slider is still tight, ensure the teeth are aligned and free from bent metal burrs.
