Lesson 1
Uncovering Your Core Motivations
Look back at your achievements to identify what you naturally enjoy and where you excel.
To find direction, you must analyse your history for patterns. Take a sheet of paper and list the five projects or tasks where you felt most 'in the flow' and successful. Ask yourself: what specifically did I enjoy? Was it the social interaction, the analytical problem-solving, or the visual creation? Most people focus on the outcome, but the process holds the key to your career satisfaction. Next, list your non-negotiables: do you need high autonomy, predictable hours, or a fast-paced environment? Many people choose careers based on prestige or salary only to realise the day-to-day work contradicts their personality. By identifying your 'work personality,' you avoid the common trap of chasing titles. A practical way to do this is to rank these factors: salary, learning potential, status, and work-life balance. Use this hierarchy to filter all potential career paths you explore next.
