Lesson 1

Crafting the Perfect Invitation

Keep your ask simple, clear, and focused on a specific activity.

Keep it brief

Avoid long, winding explanations. The more you talk, the more nervous you appear. Start by establishing a connection. 'I have really enjoyed our conversations about books.'

Be specific

Do not say 'we should hang out sometime.' That puts the burden on them to manage the planning. Instead, offer a clear option: 'Would you like to grab coffee this Saturday at the downtown cafe?'

Why this works

By being specific, you make it easy for the other person to say yes or no. If they are busy on Saturday, a person who is interested will suggest an alternative time. If they are not interested, they have a clear opening to decline without feeling pressured. Keep the activity low-stakes, like coffee or a short drink, so there is no pressure for a long, forced outing.
