Lesson 1
Structuring Your Introduction
Use the past-present-future framework to tell a cohesive professional story.
The present
Start with your current role and your primary function. Keep it to one sentence. 'I am a customer service lead managing a team of six.'
The past
Briefly highlight one or two accomplishments or skills that prepared you for this transition. 'I spent three years working in retail, where I learned to de-escalate complex customer issues.'
The future
Conclude by stating why this specific company interests you. 'I am moving into tech because I want to apply my support experience in a faster-paced digital environment.'
Timing is everything
Keep this whole section under ninety seconds. Recruiters do not want a life story; they want a professional snapshot. Practise this in front of a mirror to ensure you hit the key points without rambling. If you struggle, write it out and remove the filler words.
