Lesson 1
Drafting and Refining Communications
Use AI to write professional emails and reports while maintaining your voice.
Define your context
Never ask an AI to 'write an email.' Instead, provide the objective, audience, and tone. For example: 'Write a professional email to a client explaining a project delay due to technical issues, keeping a polite and proactive tone.' Include the key points you need to cover.
Edit for personality
AI output often sounds robotic or overly formal. Treat the result as a draft. Rewrite the opening and closing sentences to match your own communication style. Ensure the core argument is clearly yours.
The worked example
If you need to address a difficult topic, prompt the AI: 'Draft a polite response to a stakeholder who requested an impossible deadline. Focus on providing two alternatives.' This saves you the emotional labour of starting from a blank page. Always read aloud to ensure the final message sounds natural.
