Lesson 1

The Mechanics of Effective Prompting

Understand how AI models interpret input to provide more accurate and relevant responses for tasks.

Context is Everything AI models lack human experience. When asking for help, provide the 'who', 'what', and 'why'. Instead of saying 'Write an email', say 'Write an email to my project manager explaining that the database migration is delayed by two days due to server connectivity issues.' ## Defining Output Format You can control how the AI delivers information. Ask for bullet points, a table, or a specific tone of voice. Being explicit saves you from having to rewrite the content later. ## Common Mistakes Beginners often give too little information, forcing the AI to guess the intent. Treat the AI like a highly capable intern who knows nothing about your specific project. By providing context and defining the output structure clearly in your first prompt, you significantly increase the probability of getting a high-quality result on the very first try.
